Meet the Tribe - Iskra Perez Salcedo

We love to bring you stories of the amazing women we’ve come to know through the Hatch Tribe Members Circle. Today we're excited to introduce you to Iskra Perez Salcedo of IPS Accounting Services & Consulting.

As a child, what did you think you’d do when you grew up?
Funny story! I always thought I would be a writer or something along those lines. I never dreamed of being an accountant.

What’s the first thing you do when you wake up?
20 minutes of yoga, 10 minutes of meditation

Favorite book? Favorite podcast?
I love reading so it’s hard to pick a single book, but from my most recent reads I would say “Becoming” by Michele Obama. I feel we have a lot in common. I love podcasts too. I look for inspiring stories so I’m a huge fan of Oprah’s SuperSoul Conversations.

One Word. What is your life like as an entrepreneur?
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!

Tell us about your business & how it came to be.
Shortly after moving to Charleston in 2013, I was asked to help out in the Hispanic community with filing of taxes.  By the second year I had been referred so much that I decided to open my own firm only doing taxes during season. In May 2017, I decided it was time to leave Corporate America and concentrate my efforts on helping small business owners grow their business and save on taxes.

What does a typical day in your life look like?
I left Corporate America because I wanted a work/life balance that looks more like life/work.  I spend my mornings with my family unless I have a scheduled meeting.

Fill in the blank. I'm on a mission to…
Empower small businesses to achieve financial growth.

Who inspires you to be the best entrepreneur you can be?
There are so many! Definitely my Hatch Tribe boss babes encourage me every day to be the best I can be.

How did you handle fear & doubt when it comes up?
If you read the chapter of my life “I always find a way to grow.” in the book “If She Can”, you will learn that throughout my life I have always found ways to get through obstacles.  So whenever I find myself doubting myself, I just have to go back into my memories and find one of many things that I have been able to accomplish even when everything was against me. Believe me, we are stronger than we think.

What would you say are the top 3 skills or traits needed to be a successful business owner?
Perseverance, Ambition and Evolution

How do you define success?
For me it’s having the ability to take time to do other things that fill my life, like public service, volunteer work, and spending time with friends and family when needed, while still helping my clients succeed in their businesses.

What advice would you give to your younger self?
Take time to smell the roses. When we are young we are full of life and energy and put most of our efforts into raising children and getting ahead of the pack professionally, and we often forget to stop and enjoy our journey.
