Hatch Tribe Hero | Shermaine Yim Pithie

Each month we bring you a “Hatch Tribe Hero,” a woman who is rocking her business and building something with purpose. This month, we’re proud to present Shermaine Yim Pithie or Viola Grey.

What ignited the spark in you to start your business?

I see a lot of intimates and sleepwear offerings looking desperate or dated. I felt I could deliver a modern point of view in this area.

What personality trait are you most proud of?

Determination.

In one word characterize your life as an entrepreneur. #TallOrder

Exciting

What is the best advice you’ve ever received?

Understand expectations.

What sacrifices have you made to be a successful entrepreneur?

Time with family and friends. Juggling other personal priorities.

What advice would you give to your younger self?

Be bold

Where do you find inspiration?

Everywhere! I might notice a print somewhere or a person wearing something which spark other thoughts and ideas for me.

How do you handle fear?

Try my best to face it.

What would you do with one extra hour in the day?

Sleep!

What do you love to come home to?

My husband.

Name a women entrepreneur past or present you admire, and tell us why.

JK Rowling. I find her journey to success inspiring and a reminder that it’s never to late to start!

When did you know your purpose?

When I realized a job just wasn’t giving me the fulfillment I craved, I knew it was time to build something of my own.

What would you say are the top 3 skills needed to be a successful business owner?

Communication, knowing when to trust your instinct and when to take others' advice, problem solving.

What book has inspired you the most?

I don't have one! Reading for me has always been about expanding your imagination. I'm attracted to books set in Medieval, Victorian  times. There's a romance and innocence to the stories.

In your opinion, what does it take to be a great boss?

Self awareness

What lessons did you learn from your best & worst boss?

My best boss was a great communicator, cared a lot about people and relationships. That made him unforgettable. My worst boss micromanaged his team and lacked integrity.

When you’re not working, what is your favorite way to spend your free time?

Reading.
