Millennial Moment | Kate Wilson

Kate Wilson is a millennial entrepreneur that sees the glass half full. She co-founded Charleston’s CodeON, which teaches kids the basics of coding, and also features amazing boss ladies on her podcast Boss Lady Jobs to inspire women worldwide. When she isn’t working as a full time software developer or delivering an innovative product to market, Wilson de-stresses with jiu jitsu and enjoys gifs of cats. This is one innovator who knows how to keep things uplifting! Keep reading to learn about how she manages everything entrepreneurship throws at her, while still balancing her youth.

Kate Wilson

How would you describe yourself in three words?

Silly, adventurous, kind.

What is the best advice you’ve ever received?

Everything Rebecca Gosnell [of Gosnell & Company marketing firm] has ever told me. She's my fairy godmother and mentor.

What has been the toughest obstacle you’ve had to face as an entrepreneur?

I'm still in the pre-launch phase of my journey of delivering a product to market, so every step feels like a giant leap! It's filled with obstacles. But to me, solving problems is the fun part.

How do you balance the entrepreneur lifestyle with having a social life?

I don't always! I make time for what is most important: my close friends, jiu jitsu, and alone time to decompress. I say no to a lot of things.

Do you view age as being a disadvantage or advantage, and why?

I think you should have the outlook where everything is considered an advantage. Even if at first glance it isn't—make it so. Being young is a huge advantage because people may not immediately take you seriously and any (perceived) failure can be written off as immaturity. But if I were "old," there would be ways to look at that as an advantage as well.

How do you tackle self-doubt when it comes up?

Bat it down immediately, like a cat does a fly. Like this: Angry cat gif.

What is your favorite social media platform and how has it impacted your business?

Thus far Instagram has been a great tool to test the market and identify influencers.

What is your favorite way to destress?

Brazilian jiu jitsu or reflexology.

Say a young entrepreneur with a brilliant idea is reading this and is hesitant in making the leap into entrepreneurship...What is your advice for her?

Go on youtube and watch Gary Vee videos until you can't NOT - go do!
