Meet the Tribe - Lauren Tracy
Each week we bring you the story of one incredible entrepreneur who can be found inside the Hatch Tribe COLLECTIVE. Today we're excited to introduce you to Lauren Tracy of Direct My Day Charleston.
What is your business and how did it come to be? I own a wedding planning business and a bar business. While I was a teacher for 12 years, I was in a car accident which put me out of teaching for that remaining school year. During the summer of 2017, I decided that I didn’t want to go back to teaching. I told my husband that I was going to open my own wedding planning business. I had not worked in the industry before but knew that was going to be my next season of life.
What’s the hardest thing about being your own boss? The hardest thing about being my own boss is when something is wrong, broken, needs to be paid, it all falls on me. I would not change it for the world. I love not having to answer to anyone but myself!
What’s the best part about being your own boss? I have the flexibility to do what I want when I want.
How do you balance your personal life with your business? Since I do not have an office outside of my house it does make it challenging at times to stay focused. The TV, my dogs, are just sitting there and I have to set time every day to check the items off my list.
How do you take care of your mind, body, and spirit? I am a gym rat! I need to go to the gym every day to relieve stress. I try to do something every day for myself no matter how busy the day is.
How do you keep yourself accountable? I am really trying to keep myself more accountable this year. Giving myself goals each day. This way I know what I am trying to accomplish not only for the year but also weekly.
How do you handle those moments of self-doubt and fear? I think I will always have some self-doubt in this world. When clients say they have decided to use someone else. You always wonder what was the reason. I try to remember that I am good at what I do and so are so many others in Charleston.
How has a so-called failure actually set you up for future success? I believe that one of my best attributes is my work ethic. I get this from my mother I believe. So when I have failed things in the past, I strive to do better in the future. I think we learn and grow from all the things that we go through.
What resources do you love that you think other business owners should know about? I love using resources from my friends and family. I think that learning from your peers helps you better succeed in the future.
What book or podcast are you digging right now? I love Rachel Hollis, as we all do!
Who is one woman you admire and what you do you adore about her? I admire more than anyone my mother. She raised 3 girls while working full time and having us never know we were scraping by. She made each one of us feel special and believe in our goals. She taught me to be fearless, motivated, and always know what you can do anything that you want. She is a fighter and I believe that I am as well. She truly is the most remarkable person I know and the best mom I could ever ask for!
What is one quote or motto you live by? My high school quote was, “If it was meant to be, it will be”.
What does the world need more of? The world needs more dancing! Don’t we always feel better when we are free to be!
What is the best advice you’ve ever received as a business owner? The best advice that I have received was to stop teaching… hahaha. Which brought me to this season in life, which I could not be happier!
