How did your awesome business come to be?

I've always loved horses but never felt truly satisfied in my relationships with them until one special horse had the courage to show me that my own patterns of thought and behavior were what was holding me back - not just in my relationships with horses, but in all areas of my life. This horse showed me how to find my way back to who I was born to be. In so doing, she also opened my eyes to the profound brilliance of equine intuition. This experience was so life-changing and life-giving that I knew I had to find a way to share it with the world.

Who inspired you to pursue entrepreneurship?

Karen Rohlf (Dressage Naturally) has been my biggest inspiration. Not only did her personal example open my eyes to the possibilities of creative entrepreneurship within the equine industry but she also offers a fantastic 6-month mastermind program for heart-centered business owners wanting to create their own niche in this very traditional industry. Knowing I had access to her knowledge and support definitely gave me extra courage when I decided to make that leap and transition from an 18-year career in higher education fundraising to entrepreneurship!

Have you ever had a mentor? If so, how did they help you?

Oh yes! I've had many mentors, both human and equine. Ultimately these mentors have helped me most by showing me how to get out of my own way and allow my unique gifts and brilliance to shine authentically.

How do you define success for yourself?

For me, success is using my unique gifts to help others realize and embrace their own. When I can do that, every other form of success naturally follows.

We all love failure & flop stories! Tell us about something you tried in business that didn't work, and how you moved beyond it.

The biggest "flop" for me so far was a holiday promotion I ran last year where I encouraged my most satisfied customers to buy gift certificates for friends or family members who they thought could benefit from my program. While this effort DID bring in some additional income at the end of the year, and it DID introduce my business to a wider audience... it also reminded me that equine-assisted learning requires a significant level of emotional buy-in from the participant. Few of the "gifted" sessions resulted in the truly transformational learning that inevitably occurs when someone personally chooses or seeks out this modality. It was a good reminder that simply increasing sales is not the goal. Finding ways to authentically shine the unique light of my business is what will allow those who are looking for what my horses and I offer at Unbridled to find us!

What is a recent success that you're super proud of accomplishing?

I recently launched a three-part video series called "To Observe Horses is to Know Horses". The goal of launching this series, which I will be offering for free for a limited time, is twofold: 1) to guide more people toward a deeper understanding about horses and what we can learn from their example, and 2) to increase my mailing list in a more authentic way that draws the right kind of clients to me organically. The release of Part I in this series resulted in a 50% increase in my mailing list and I can't wait to release Part II in the coming weeks! The early enthusiasm about these educational videos is now inspiring me to begin planning for a much more robust online classroom in the future.

What is your superpower?

Empathy.

What is the least sexy part of your job?

I clean up two hundred pounds of horse manure on my farm every day. But the upside of this is that I constantly get to "shovel the sh-- out of my life"!

What do you hope to learn from your fellow entrepreneurs in the Hatch Tribe Members Circle?

I have no set expectations, just a deep faith that when we surround ourselves with vibrant, passionate, knowledgable peers who embrace collaboration and success, this is where the magic happens! So I am eternally grateful to Hillary, Nina and all the amazing women who make up this community. Together we will soar!
