Each week we bring you the story of one incredible entrepreneur who can be found inside the Hatch Tribe COLLECTIVE. Today we’re excited to introduce Alexandria Watson of Salon Alexandria and The White Room in Mount Pleasant, SC.

What is your business and how did it come to be?

I have had Salon Alexandria going on for 14 years and The White Room, a bridal, events, and photography studio, for almost a year. The salon was well thought out and planned whereas The White Room was spontaneous, the universe was talking kind of decision.

What’s the hardest thing about being your own boss?

Never actually punching out.

What’s the best part about being your own boss?

Absolutely creativity and self-management for me. No limitations.

How do you balance your personal life with your business?

For me, it's more life/work integration rather than balance. They aren't two separate forces.

How do you take care of your mind, body, and spirit?

Yoga, food, sleep and repeat. Then snuggles with my boys for my spirit.

How do you keep yourself accountable?

I have pretty high expectations (so I have been told) and I hold myself to those same expectations. Work is fulfilling to me and I love what I do so work doesn't feel like "work".

How do you handle those moments of self-doubt and fear?

Fear is less scary when you know what's causing it and you are able to break through it. Give fear a name, failure, exhaustion, and insecurity, those are problems you can work through. Fear for the sake of fear itself is pointless.

How has a so-called failure actually set you up for future success?

The saying "We learn more from our failures than our successes" is pretty true. I have definitely learned from my mistakes and I'm grateful for the growth they have allowed me.

What resources do you love that you think other business owners should know about?

The Hatch Tribe CEO Society

What book or podcast are you digging right now?

Braving the Wilderness by Brene Brown

Principles by Ray Dalio

Podcasts:

Goal Digger by Jenna Kutcher

Who is one woman you admire and what do you adore about her?

A friend of mine, Miranda Hudson. She is the perfect balance of kindness and strength. She is more driven than most and is so successful because of it. She is a liver of life and everyone's friend and I really admire her fearlessness.

What is one quote or motto you live by?

“Life is for the liver. You must live and life will be good to you.” by Maya Angelou

What does the world need more of?

Forgiveness. We all need more of this because people are people and we are not perfect.

What is the best advice you’ve ever received as a business owner?

This might sound silly, but I was 26 when I started Salon Alexandria and I would get pretty frustrated by certain situations with people. My friend, Miranda, came to visit me and I aired some of my struggles and she said to me, "Alex, not everyone thinks as you do." So simple and I'm not sure why that had not occurred to me before but my eyes were opened.
