I Am Not Perfect
I am not perfect.
This one bears repeating, perhaps even singing it from the rooftop...
I. AM. NOT. PERFECT.
Despite what you see on my beautifully curated Instagram, I am a human just like you, complete with her own eccentricities, flaws, and "gifts" that god gave me.
Yes, I run a successful business. I pay my bills. I employ a team of people. I go on vacation. I own my home. I dine out on octopus and Tempranillo. And occasionally I even buy new jeans and gray shirts to continue dressing like Mark Zuckerberg.
But behind the scenes, my life looks just like yours. I clean the toilets. I complain about doing the laundry. I bitch and moan about my emails. I get overwhelmed. I question whether I'm doing the right things in life & business. I doubt myself. I get a massive dose of imposter syndrome. I even go into deep, dark holes of self-loathing, anxiety, and depression. No joke.
At times my life is a full blown shit show.
I tell you this because all too often people come up to me and say... "It looks like everything is AMAZING for you right now!" And I know when they say "looks like" it means they've been following along on social media, our newsletters, or even our videos. And yeah, that stuff does look fucking amazing, because we work really hard to provide massive value to our community and stay on brand!
But that's not an indicator of how I, Hilary Johnson, am doing on a daily basis. It's time to stop confusing the two. My "perfect" Instagram feed is no indicator of my own "perfection".
No one is perfect. I'm not. You're not. Neither of us needs to be. And at the core, comparison really is the thief of joy.
What I know to be true is that successful entrepreneurs are not worried about perfection. They'd rather get it done 80% "right" than kill themselves trying to reach 100%. They stay in their own lane. They stay focused on their customers & clients and truly serving them the best they can.
Trust in your heart that you are A-Freaking-OK right now. And get back to work, because life's too short to sit around worry about what anyone else is doing.
