3 Must-Read Mindset Shifting Books

Remember that song Baby Got Back by Sir Mix-A-Lot?

Ok, get that beat in your head and kick these lyrics.

I like big books and I cannot lie

You other readers can't deny

When a good book walks in with

A good plot base

And a big spine in your face

You get sprung!

Wanna get out your notepads

'Cause you noticed that book

Was dense.

Deep in the book I'm reading,

I'm hooked and I can't stop

Speeding, through Baby

I wanna get that literature,

And Instagram that picture,

My teachers try to train me

But that book you've got

Makes me so brainy!

(Baby got books!)

😂😂😂

Oh, how I loved that song and how I love books.

In today’s issue of 3 Things, I’m sharing 3 books (plus 2 bonus ones) that occupy a special place in my heart. These are books that have opened my mind and shifted my perspective. I commonly draw on the wisdom of these authors when working with clients to help them see things in a different light.

May these books help you “zoom the lens out” and understand your own life’s experiences in a more profound way.

3 Mindset Shifting Books for Entrepreneurs

Finding Me by Viola Davis

Viola Davis is an extraordinary actor known for her work in Hunger Games, How to Get Away With Murder, and The Help. But she wasn’t always a superstar. Her path to becoming who she is today is nothing short of harrowing and inspiring.

What I love about this book:

  • Her story proves that anything is possible when you set your mind to it

  • The challenges she faced in her childhood gave me a deeper gratitude for the relative ease of mine

  • Her attitude is 🔥 She didn’t allow the difficulties to define her or break her, but instead they ignited her!

Die with Zero by Bill Perkins

The title of this book is a little “click-baity”, but the content is solid! If you’re the kind of person who wants to make good money, do some good in the world, and truly enjoy your life, this book will show you a whole new way of thinking about the intersection of money + life + joy.

What I love about this book:

  • It playfully reminds you that death is inevitable and we need to make the most of our living days

  • You’ll learn a really cool framework for deciding when & how to spend your money so you can maximize the enjoyment and impact

  • It may completely change your mind about how much money to save for your retirement years!

Your Year for Change: 52 Reflections for Regret-Free Living by Bronnie Ware

I think it’s safe to say none of us want to die with regret. But it begs the question…What do people regret? After interviewing hundreds of people on their deathbeds, Bronnie published The Top Five Regrets of the Dying. This book is a wonderful companion piece that helps you absorb those lessons all year long.

What I love about this book:

  • Bronnie’s writes with such loving care and concern that you feel her compassion

  • I read one reflection every week for a year, and it was such a sweet companion to my journaling practice

  • This book helps you bring your attention back to the here & now where life is really lived

BONUS Book Recos!

I had a hard time narrowing it down to just 3, so here are 2 more that you may love.

1. The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz

Maybe you’ve read this book before, but have you ever read it from the viewpoint of being a business owner? Each of the 4 agreements takes on a new tone & context! It will absolutely change the way you view your work, your relationships with your team, and the interactions with your customers.

2. Freelance Your Way to Freedom by Alexandra Fasulo

You do not need to be a freelancer to really benefit from reading this book. Alexandra started her career on Fiverr and turned it into a million-dollar business. If you want to understand how to grow & scale a service based business, this is a great, actionable, and easy read!
